WIN goes purple for Epilepsy Awareness
March is Epilepsy Awareness Month!
Following the positive reception from last year, Women in Need will once again be promoting Epilepsy Awareness in our stores. From March 20th to March 26th all four of our Resale stores will be turning purple. We will also have information on hand for those looking for support, services and educational opportunities surrounding epilepsy.
March 26th, is known around the world as Purple Day. Founded in 2008 by a young girl named Cassidy, Purple Day aims to raise awareness, dispel Epilepsy myths, and create a support network for people living with epilepsy. WIN will be offering special in-store discounts on Purple Day for customers sporting purple and showing their support. Don't miss out!
DID you know?
- Anyone can develop epilepsy. Seizures start for the first time in people over age 65 almost as often as it does in children.
- It is estimated that 1 in 100 people have epilepsy, and in 50% of cases, the cause is unknown.
-You can't swallow your tongue during a seizure. It's physically impossible.
- ONE-THIRD of people with epilepsy live with uncontrollable seizures because no available treatment works for them.
Headway is Victoria's local Epilepsy & Parkinson's Centre. Here you can find resources, support and services related to Epilepsy. Visit them online at http://www.vepc.bc.ca
